Mary, recently widowed, joined several groups at her church to fill the extra time and loneliness she was experiencing. During a Saturday afternoon benevolence meeting she shared her loneliness with some friends and they suggested that she get a talking parrot to keep her company at home. She liked this idea and stopped at the local pet store on her way home. The shop owner had one left. Assured that the parrot talked quite fluently she purchased it and was told of the two week return policy.

When she arrived home Mary set the cage up in an unused corner of the kitchen and went about her chores, as the ladies Christmas planning committee was to meet in her home after church the next day. Immediately the parrot began harassing her, using language so foul that it would have made a drunken sailor in a port bar blush. She tried reasoning with the parrot informing him that she would not tolerate bad language in her home. Ignoring her, the parrot continued his belittling and harassment. She was becoming very distressed, deciding to return the parrot before the meeting the nest day. Mary then called the pet shop and the recording informed her that the pet shop was closed for the day and would not reopen until Monday. Mary was getting very frustrated as there was nowhere in the house the parrot could not be heard. Finally she felt the need to pray but the parrot distracted her. In her anger she scooped the parrot up and put it in the freezer. The parrot continued and began to kick the freezer’s door and sides, but it was muffled enough to let Mary concentrate on her prayers.

Mary cried out to the Lord to forgive the parrot and to quiet it, especially before the ladies were to arrive for the meeting. She also repented for her anger and included other prayers as she was lead by the Spirit. After her amen she began to prepare her dinner and snacks for the meeting the next day. Suddenly she realized that the parrot was still in the freezer and that she had not heard a peep from him in about fifteen minutes. She was overcome with conviction as well as relief. She then fetched the parrot from the freezer and seeing that he was ok, apologized and placed him in his cage. While she continued preparing her meal she figured her prayers were answered since the parrot remained quiet. She went to the cage, apologized again, then asked him why his behaviors had changed so radically to which the parrot answered; I met the chicken and the turkey while I was in there.

NAILS IN THE FENCE
Make sure you read all the way down to the last sentence.

(Most importantly the last sentence)

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temp er at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, 'You

have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.'

It's National Friendship Week. Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND, even if it means sending it back to the person who sent it to you! If it comes back to you, you will then know you have a circle of friends.

YOU ARE MY FRIEND AND I AM HONORED!

Now send this to every friend you have!! And to your family (they need to know that you love them too).
Please forgive me if I have ever left a 'hole' in your fence.
